United Airlines to operate in Funchal from June 2025

From June 2025, the US airline United Airlines will start operating in Madeira. The Funchal/Newark flight will have three weekly frequencies and will connect the region to 89 airports in the USA, Canada and Mexico, on flights operated by United or partners. United's service from Madeira to New York/Newark will be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with 16 Premium PlusSM seats, 54 Economy PlusSM seats and 96 Economy seats.

For example, travel prices in June can vary between 888 and 6,205 euros (round trip), depending on the fare chosen.

“We are excited to announce our first-ever nonstop service between Madeira and New York/Newark, further expanding our route network from Portugal to the US,” said Marcel Fuchs, General Manager, International Sales, United Airlines, quoted in a press release.

“For the summer of 2025, our customers in Portugal will benefit from an even greater choice of travel, with the opportunity for direct service connecting Madeira to the United States, as well as the possibility of enjoying convenient connections via our New York/Newark hub to 57 destinations across America,” he added.

In addition to the new flights, customers will have even more time to explore Venice, Italy; Athens, Greece; and Barcelona, Spain, with earlier start dates next summer. The airline will also increase the number of weekly nonstop flights between Newark/New York-Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Newark/New York-Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Newark/New York-Athens, Greece.

United is also adding new direct flights from Tokyo-Narita to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Kaohsiung - destinations that no other US airline serves - and a new direct flight to Koror, Palau. These new flights will seamlessly connect Tokyo to United's transpacific services to five hub locations in the continental United States.

United flies to more international destinations than any other US airline. In total, next summer United will offer 800 daily flights to and from 147 international destinations - including 40 that no other US airline serves. All new flights are subject to government approval and will be available for sale on United's website and app.

“No other airline offers customers direct access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances. “Our network offers the greatest choice and variety for our customers, whether they're looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, a once-in-a-lifetime adventure trip or to explore some of the world's most vibrant urban hideaways.”

Many of the new flights will be available for sale on United.com and the United app in the coming weeks.
